Well, with one extremely notable exception (and another, more mildly notable exception) I’ve been rather quiet these past few weeks. That’s because I was finishing off my open University course. Now that it’s all over, I’m getting ready for Actual University, which starts a week from now. So this is my summer holiday! The perfect time to get into the blogging habit again!
The thing I’ve actually been thinking about recently is how easy it is to have a good reason not to write. When I’m really honest with myself, I could easily have been writing on my regular schedule this whole time. After all, when I wrote my 5000-word autism piece, I had not yet written a word of the assignment that was due at the end of that week! That didn’t matter at all at the time, though. I had something to get off my chest, and so the blog shot up in my priority list. By default, it’s lower than checking a message for for the thousandth time in a day. It just seems to take a gargantuan effort to get any kind of ball rolling. It’s gotten easier, but I’m certainly far from where I need to be to make this kind of thing a viable career option.
It seems like the less I blog, the more I blog about blogging. I guess there’s good reason for that. It’s good to briefly review this stuff before moving forward. Saves me dwelling on it later. Expect posts every weekday this week!
